Going to the Keys

Small back story first.

We love the keys!!! It started with me and 2 other guys. We left on a grand adventure the day after we graduated highschool we arrived by car in the keys. We ate great food, drank cheap beer, snorkled, got sun poisoning, went to Key West, weathered a tropical storm, and broke the car, it was fantastic.

The snorkeling was incredible, vibrant colors of the corals, schools of fish everywhere, just a magical world of color, it was beautiful and I don’t think any of us truly appreciated how amazing it was. Fast forward what feels like a lifetime and only 1 other snorkel trip in the bahamas.

Almost 2 years ago I remarried. Her name is Kristina, she is remarkable and designed the honeymoon IN THE KEYS !!!!!!

It was a very eventful start to the Honeymoon, we were driving from Ohio to Florida and got sideswiped by a car hauler in Charlotte NC we spent the next day in a wrecking yard trying to get everything straightened out. We stayed at a beautiful Hotel thanks to my brother’s generosity. The next day we rented one of the only vehicle available that day at Hertz, a Dodge Sprinter cargo van with rub marks down both sides. (It was a beautiful beast) Kristina loved driving it.

Upon making it to the keys we rested and enjoyed dinner at a place called Hobos it is a wonderful place to eat. We had a fabulous waitress who ended up being our dolphin liaison at a cool place called Dolphins Plus Marine Mammal responder.the very next morning.

Then we spent time shopping for souvenirs and getting new snorkel gear and what do you do with new snorkel gear? You go snorkeling and that’s what we did the next day. We went snorkeling!!!!  When taking a snorkel trip here is a hint. Do not I repeat Do not share a trip with scuba divers. They dive into different areas so somebody misses out, either the the snorkelers or the scuba divers. So if you remember anything keep that in mind.

We had a blast, the views were great but nothing like many years ago. The reef is in need of help. Well we couldn’t just snorkel so Kristina decided to find a bunch of moon jellyfish and get stung. They only feel like bee stings, but still no fun. I helped her out of the water and then she started getting sea sick. The boat crew explained it would be better just to blow chunks and she would scored  on sound color and distance. I’m not sure of her score but she did feel a bit better for a while. Kristina convinced me after some time to go back in and continue snorkeling. So after she had fed the fish I hopped in the water swam a bit and got stung by a Jelly that slid down my mask, my face, my chest and finally disconnected from me. Then the second one got me.
